Viviane,
Forgive me this:
The sky is blue and above our heads.
Your turn...;)
hello, i am certainly new to all of this.
i have recently been studying the prophecy's, and i was wondering if they are of any importance at all?

Viviane,
In the short time I've been here I have not seen you be passive about anything religious. No, you are very active, forthright and quite forceful in your opposition to religion.
I admire that, believe it or not. To be ready to skillfully defend a stand is something beautiful and you do it consistently with a verbal sword that cuts through the fat. Good for you.
Secondly, to not encourage something in no way means I in no way have any idea what that thing is.
I can say I understand what being a woman is but in no way can I truly understand what being a woman is because I am not a woman. You may intellectually understand what is meant by spiritual or spirituality but unless you experience it for yourself you have no way of truly understanding what is meant.
I will not participate in efforts to divide the flesh from its fat in order to satisfy an atheistic pursuit to put down religious beliefs.
Respectfully said and meant.
Frank

Viviane: You said this place was not spiritually encouraging. I am in this place and not encouraging spirituality, so, yeah, you did say that whether you realized it or not. (underlining mine)
Viviane: I am asking you what this spirituality is that this place, and therefore me, is lacking. Until you tell me what it is, you really can't say that it's lacking. (underlining mine)
First you say you not encouraging spirituality (in the first quote above) then you turn around and ask me what spirituality is?
You should know since you already know you are not encouraging it. How can you discourage what you do not know/understand? Puzzling conversation, this.

Viviane: Until you can tell me what this "spirituality" thing is that I am lacking, you aren't saying anything
I did not say you were lacking anything. Please read more carefully. ;)

EA916,
If we believe the Bible is inspired of God then the prophecies are important.
If we believe the Bible is NOT inspired of God then the prophecies are NOT important.
If we are compassionate toward our fellow man then whether we believe the Bible is inspired or not we have nothing to worry about spiritually speaking.
From what I have seen just about all here have compassion for their fellow man so you are in a good place though not spiritually encouraging. But that's life.

you know about my not-so-ugly divorce and how me and my wife found out the religion is false.
she still attends while my 17 year old has been raging on me about all the wasted time he suffered from by being in this religion.
he think's his life is ruined, very angry we did not learn this was a cult earlier(he was 14 when he stopped attending after reading the revelation book, he said "in all time and history, how could a trumpet blown in revelation have anything to do with a jw bible student convention statement"?.
I have a different take on this. Perhaps it's my age or maybe it's because I think young people should be told the truth with no apologies when the truth is: Dad and Mom tried their best.
This is life...we can try out best...give it our best shot..and then find we have failed in some way. Our kids should learn that lesson and learn also that to try our best and fail is not a reason to apologize it is a reason to learn that life is not a game where we can always predict the outcome and come out smelling like roses. No, life is a struggle but a struggle well worth it if we are trying our best, giving it our all. If we have done that there is no reason to apologize for choices we had to make or chose to make.
There are thousands of choices good parents make and good loving parents may in hindsight wish they had made better choices, different choices, for their children. That though does not mean a parent should apologize for a choice made in good faith, with good intentions and with love. Should a father in the military whose family has had to move many times or a mother who chose a dangerous job in a foreign country because it paid for her child's education and then was seriously injured, should they apologize also? If they were good, loving and responsible parents why should they apologize for a choice sincerely made?
It is a lesson learned for the child- Son, we all make choices and at times those choices may later prove to be less than ideal or even wrong but this is life. I have made my choices with the best intentions, you someday will make choices you may later feel were best not made. But if you did your best what more can be asked of you?
All one can do is learn and move on. To wallow in our sincerely made bad choices is a waste of breath and time. Move forward son and hope that when your turn to raise children comes along you will not overly beat yourself for the sincerely made bad choices you yourself will almost positively make.-
It is one thing to apologize because our hearts impel us to but another to apologize because we feel we owe it to our children. What we owe our children is love and the best choices we can make with the information we have available to us at the time. What more can we do?

not sure how wide spread this is, but from my social media land i saw 2 separate videos, from two halls in completely different towns featuring their kids having a demonstration on the service meeting (i am guessing last night as i didn't go).
these kids are really young!
maybe this was just a coincidence at first i thought it was the same video then realized theses people live hundreds of miles apart.
I do not care for this sort of stuff. These cartoons aimed directly at children are skipping over the parent who should be the one to instruct their child. This is intrusive and detrimental to the parent's ability to teach their child in accord with the child's needs and maturity.
It is nonsense. Today sesame street reigns at the Watchtower not just for the children but for all. Can you tell me how to get to sesame street? Yes, 124 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn NY. Goofy and Donald Duck are there also just ring the bell sit down and watch the next cartoon.
quote from the watchtower, march 15, 2015, page 23:.
in the illustration of the faithful and discreet slave, jesus spoke of an evil slave who beat his fellow slaves.
jesus was not there foretelling that an evil slave class would arise.
The change to no Evil Slave class was the Governing Body's Get Out of Jail Free card. No Evil Slave means there is no way the FDS, today or in the past, could be the Evil Slave.
Convenient theology is the mode of the day in the Watchtower.

jesus was a jew who apparently thought he was the messiah, however, after dying, his disciples began to propagate the lie that he would return from heaven during his generation.
but, his generation passed away, and it was clear that it was a false prophecy, then a dishonest christian wrote the second letter of peter so as to condemn those who realised that the prophecy was a fiasco.
interestingly, and sadly, this religion survived,....why????
I would like to state that I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ in association with Jehovah's Witnesses. That I believe he will return and that after his return a physical resurrection will occur and the earth will be restored from the damage done to it.
I recognize that religion is a divisive topic on this forum and I do not intend to get into religious debates. Been there, done that. ;)
I felt it good though to at least declare my religious beliefs in a small non-confrontational way, if that is acceptable on this thread. If not, then my apologies.

i remember the days when jws were proud of their religion, they walked tall and carried their big stick, their bibles, proudly.
now, it's embarrassing for a witness to admit their faith to others.
the average witness can't explain their beliefs, as they have changed so many times.
There was a time when we would attend District Conventions and come away with a book, books, that at least gave us food for thought. We felt we had been given meat. Today we go to Regional Conventions and come away with baby food unfit for mature consumption. But hey at least they renamed it to Regional rather than District now that is something! ;)
What is it they say about lipstick on a pig? Each time I enter the JW site I remember that line: Lipstick on a pig.
